Jora, Mt Kasigua Region, Kenya
23 July 2015

The Kasigua Basket Weaver’s initiative is made up of women from the villages at the base of Mount Kasigau, in the Tsavo region of the Taita county in Kenya.

The area is popular for it’s safaris, and it’s due to this closeness to the greater Tsavo ecosystem, the area and its inhabitants live under threat from ‘Human Wildlife Conflict’.  “The elephants, they are so cheeky and rude, they eat our crops and when we come to chase them away they just look at us.” Mildred, Jora Basket Weavers.

And so the Kasigau Basket Weavers Group was born as a means of sustaining an income to overcome the threats that nature poses on them.
